Nacional) ,da Orquestra do Teatro Nacional de São Carlos e da Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa.Recebeu vários prémios e condecorações: Prémio Guilhermina Suggia, Óscar da Imprensa (1962), Prémio Moreira de Sá, Prémio da Secretaria de Estado da Cultura (1972), Prémio Almada (2002). Estudou com Aldo Ciccolini, em Itália e em Paris, graças a bolsas de estudo da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian e da Secretaria de Estado da Cultura, e com Jorge Moyano e Miguel Henriques na Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa. Concluiu recentemente o Mestrado em Artes Musicais/Piano pela Universidade Nova de Lisboa e pela Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa. A "Canção de amor filial" recorda afecto profundo conduzindo a obra ao ambiente misterioso que dá lugar a uma "meditação sobre a vida e a morte". Fugato - através do tango - onde se envolvem duas ideias: "Vida é viver, morte é morrer. Mas viver é também morrer, morte é Também viver. Princípio da existência humana: vida-morte ou morte-vida". Após a reexposição do allegro inicial e do tema da canção, a calma é aparente. Pouco a pouco acaba no grito, na Revolta!&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;span style="color:#ffcc66;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;span style="color:#ffcc66;"&gt;Ainda em Maio, aconteceu a estreia de um singular recital de música e poesia, em que, duas a duas, se vão enlaçando poemas e músicas. De Florbela Espanca, Antero de Quental, António Feijó, António Nobre e Eugénio de Castro, contrapontadas com composições de Vianna da Motta, Debussy, Caplet, Massenet ( a célebre "Meditação"), fauré, Elgar e Chaminade.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;span style="color:#ffcc66;"&gt;No palco, a actriz &lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;Amélia Videira&lt;/span&gt; e o duo &lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;Lídia Serejo / Tatiana Balyuk&lt;/span&gt;.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;span style="color:#ffcc66;"&gt;Haverá no concerto seguinte, dia &lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;15 de Setembro&lt;/span&gt;, a estreia de mais uma produção da &lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;Companhia de Música Teatral. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;Entrelaçam-se sons, palavras, luzes, linguagem gestual, de forma a tornar cada vez mais atraente, mais diversificado o espectáculo Música.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;span style="color:#ffcc66;"&gt;Ousado e complexo (na forma, na substância!) - &lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;Zyklus op. 2 -&lt;/span&gt; programado expressamente para Cascais reservado para este final de ciclo esta "première" mundial, digna da encantadora cidadela. Procurando impulsionar novas e criativas singularidades. Título: TRIO CON BRIO E VIOLONCELO ELECTRÓNICO&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;span style="color:#ffcc66;"&gt;No palco &lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;Vasco Alves&lt;/span&gt; assegura súbita e inesperada vertente electro-acústica acoplada à música escrita por Mozart no verão de 1788. Comparável em qualidade e inovação dos últimos quartetos de Beethoven. João V, desde 1719, durante nove anos, e que abandonou a Capela Papal, em Roma, para servir o monarca português;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#66cccc;"&gt;Criação da Academia Portuguesa de História;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#66cccc;"&gt;Reforma da Capela Real, elevada à dignidade de Sé Patriarcal;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#66cccc;"&gt;Criação em 1713 do seminário da Patriarcal - que viria a ser durante muitos anos a principal escola de música de Portugal, ficando adjacente à Capela real;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#66cccc;"&gt;Envio de Bolseiros para Roma, estimulado pela famosa Embaixada do Marquês de Fontes ao Papa Clemente XI, sabendo-se que, no primeiro quartel do século XVIII, a Cidade Pontífica era um dos maiores centros musicais da Europa;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#66cccc;"&gt;Criação em 1729 no Convento de Santa Catarina de Ribamar, da Escola de Cantochão dirigida pelo compositor Giovanni Georgi - do qual se conservam quase trezentas obras religiosas no Arquivo da Sé de Lisboa;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#66cccc;"&gt;Nos primeiros anos do reinado, celebração de aniversários e festas onomásticas dos membros da família real com &lt;em&gt;zarzuelas&lt;/em&gt; espanholas, género de ópera alegórica que remontava ao século XVII mas que não aparecem vestígios anteriores;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#66cccc;"&gt;A partir da chegada de Domenico Scarlatti a Lisboa, em 1719, começa a introdução de &lt;em&gt;Serenatas&lt;/em&gt;, género semi-operático italiano, com música do próprio Scarlatti e compositores como Francisco António de Almeida;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#66cccc;"&gt;Desde 1713, pelo menos, estão documentadas as primeiras tentativas de realizar, em Lisboa, espectáculos de ópera; há notícia, de pelo menos, seis deles, do género cómico. De representações avulsas na corte, pelos cantores da Capela Real, em palcos provisórios montados no Paço da Ribeira, durante o Carnaval. O interesse pela ópera define-se também por via particular, não obstante algumas frustrações sofridas, em 1733, por entusiastas como o Cónego Lázaro Leitão, um dos mais ricos clérigos da patriarcal e antigo secretário do Marquês de Fontes em Roma. Importa assinalar ainda o empenho de personalidades marcantes, na época, como Alexandre de Gusmão e o Conde de Ericeira. Acções continuadas em 1740 pelo Marquês de Abrantes e que acentuam esse empenho, ao assegurarem a edição de textos bilingues das óperas ( quase todos de Metastasio). De referir ainda, a propósito, que, em 1733, o rei D. João V não assistiu a alguns desses entretenimentos privados ( ocupado com as obras do Convento de Mafra), perdeu ensaios e representações de &lt;em&gt;La pazienza di Socrate&lt;/em&gt;, faltou à estreia, em 1739, de &lt;em&gt;La Spinalba&lt;/em&gt; - ambas de Francisco António de Almeida;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#66cccc;"&gt;Contemporâneamente surgem as principais representações asseguradas por marionetas - mas designadas como óperas - e que constituem o equivalente aos géneros semi-operáticos do &lt;em&gt;Singspiel&lt;/em&gt; alemão, da &lt;em&gt;ballad&lt;/em&gt; ópera inglesa e do opéra-comique francesa. Os textos são da autoria do advogado judeu António José da Silva (queimado, 1739, pela Inquisição). A música, com muita probabilidade, é de António Teixeira. Foram levadas à cena no Teatro do Bairro Alto - desde 1733 até àquela data fatídica;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#66cccc;"&gt;Entretanto, em 1735, é inaugurado o primeiro teatro público de ópera da capital, a &lt;em&gt;Accademia alla Piazza della Trinita, &lt;/em&gt;(sensivelmente onde hoje existe o Tatro da Trindade), com &lt;em&gt;Farnace de Metastasio&lt;/em&gt;, texto musicado pelo bolonhês Gaetano Maria Schiassi; inicia-se o gosto pelas chamadas "danças altas", mantendo-se durante estas manifestações de bailado, a separação entre sexos, o que criou dificuldades de expansão rápida e correcta deste género relacionado com o teatro lírico;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#66cccc;"&gt;Em 1738, a Academia da Trindade é, em parte, substituída pela actividade do Teatro da Rua dos Condes, situada no local do Cinema Condes, onde se cantavam óperas sérias, acompanhadas muitas vezes por &lt;em&gt;intermezzi&lt;/em&gt; cómicos nos intervalos;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#66cccc;"&gt;Com a subida ao trono de D. José, em 1750, mantem-se o estímulo operático gerado pela acção de D. João V, com a vinda de novos cantores, homens de teatro, autores - desencadeando-se a construção e funcionamento de novos teatros. E sobretudo daquele que viria a constituir um dos maiores e mais arrojados acontecimentos da Europa do século XVIII;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#66cccc;"&gt;ÓPERA DO TEJO, situada junto ao mar, no local onde hoje está instalado o Arsenal da Marinha. Inaugurada no dia 31 de Março de 1755, com uma récita de &lt;em&gt;Alessandro nell' Indie&lt;/em&gt;, de David Perez, reunindo quase todos os maiores cantores italianos da época, numa encenação prodigiosa encostada ao rio e que permitia reunir um destacamento de cavalaria no palco imenso.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#66cccc;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1 de Novembro de 1755 - Terramoto de Lisboa - &lt;/strong&gt;que engole a Ópera do Tejo, a Biblioteca de D. João IV e outras riquezas patrimoniais irrecuperáveis. Morrem os sonhos de grandeza e de cultura de D. João V. Nesse dia, tudo ou quase tudo mudou para mim. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#c0c0c0;"&gt;Abandonei os meus projectos de cientista - nada menos, tinha os meus aguerridos 19 anos, era assim! Admiraria hoje, se os tivesse, esse admirável Edgar Cardoso - fazedor de ponte única no mundo (por que razão lhe não chamam Ponte Edgar Cardoso, tal como os Franceses o fizeram em relação à Torre Eiffel?).&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#c0c0c0;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#c0c0c0;"&gt;Regresso à música. Como ia dizendo, graças a Luís de Freitas Branco, esqueci Einstein para me lançar nos braços de Euterpe. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#c0c0c0;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#c0c0c0;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#c0c0c0;"&gt;Vou contar o episódio, porque reflecte um dos traços menos conhecidos da personalidade que mais marcou a música portuguesa no século XX.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#c0c0c0;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#c0c0c0;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#c0c0c0;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#c0c0c0;"&gt;Eu pouco sabia, nessa altura, da sua riqueza como professor de composição. E passei a querer ser - nada mais, nada menos - um grande músico. Paixão recentíssima, proveniente de programas de rádio. Havia, no entanto, algo que, no íntimo, me preocupava não obstante o colossal atrevimento. Ser sinfonista numa terra destas. Preocupava-me, na verdade, a circunstância de já ir a caminho dos vinte. Não seria tarde de mais para tão ciclópico projecto? Tinha de ouvir a opinião de um especialista.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#c0c0c0;"&gt;Ora eu ouvia, pontualmente, todas as quartas-feiras às nove e meia, aquele senhor que não conhecia. Ele ali estava, todas as semanas, no canal da radiodifusão oficial, integrado num projecto cultural assumido pelo então director musical, Pedro do Prado, já desaparecido e ingratamente esquecido pelos músicos, e que consistia em colocar diante de um microfone uma personalidade a falar de história da música.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#c0c0c0;"&gt;E Luís de Freitas Branco lá foi falando de Wagner durante mais de uma ano! Falava, obviamente, com extrema simplicidade dos temas mais complexos. E o País escutava-o maravilhado. Eu também, como disse. Resolvi consultá-lo!&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#c0c0c0;"&gt;Apresentei-me. Simples ouvinte, tinha-me apaixonado subitamente pela música clássica aos 17 anos. Queria saber se aos 19 seria demasiado tarde para poder vir a ser um grande compositor! E fazia-lhe esta pergunta porque ouvira pela Emissora Nacional a estreia de uma sinfonia (palavra mágica) de um jovem compositor português de vinte e poucos anos, chamado Joly Braga Santos, o qual fora seu discípulo.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#c0c0c0;"&gt;Afinal (extraordinária revelação!), Freitas Branco era também um mestre à maneira dos pintores do Renascimento, cercado de discípulos que lhe bebiam os gestos, as palavras!&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#c0c0c0;"&gt;Luís de Freitas Branco, com aquele meio sorriso (único) de homem superior, de aristocrata, impregnado de alguma altivez mas infinitamente bondoso, disse-me mais ou menos isto:&lt;br /&gt;Mas o que é que o senhor sabe? Não me atrapalhei demasiado, apesar de saber muitissimo pouco. O que me salvou, julgo, foi ter começado a cantar baixinho, de improviso, naquele velho corredor da velha Emissora Nacional (hoje Radiodifusão Portuguesa), temas de sinfonias de Beethoven!&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#c0c0c0;"&gt;Fizera-o instintivamente, julgo, para lhe mostar que, ao menos, conhecia e devorava tudo quanto era boa música.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#c0c0c0;"&gt;Vi então aquele brilho intenso nos seus olhos - e que ainda hoje não esqueço. Disse-me qualquer coisa acerca de Tchaikovsky e de Stravinsky, que decidiram tarde, como eu (imagine-se!), ser compositores. E acabou dizendo-me estas palavras:&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#c0c0c0;"&gt;Vejo que a sua paixão pela música é pura, verdadeira e muito forte. É quanto basta. Se quiser, poderei - a partir deste momento - ser seu professor de composição.
